BreakTimer
My little AIR application that will tell you to take a break from your computer after a given period of time. Like many people, I work, learn, and play in front of a computer. I am a programmer, and often I can get lost in solving the riddles of the project. Loosing track of time, I will stay in front of the computer working until I am either very frustrated or have solved the problem. This has caused lower back pain and a herniated disc. Well, compounded the lower pack pain from my collegiate volleyball career.
BreakTimer counts down from whatever time you set it (1 to 180 minutes). Once it reaches zero, it will take over the screen (or screens if you have multiple monitors) and say “BREAK!” You can set what is says to anything you like, as well as the text color, background, and transparency of the break window. To close the break window, simply hit ESCAPE. The BreakTimer will run from the taskbar or dock (Windows or Mac) and the icon will display the minutes left.
In this new version, 2.1, I added the ability to auto-start. So when BreakTimer loads it will automatically start counting down and be minimized to the taskbar or dock. This can be set by right clicking on the taskbar or dock icon and checking the “Auto Start” menu item. I hope to added statistics: how long you are not on “break” and how long you are on “break.” Trying to gauge the work to break ratio, and try to find the golden mean.
