Hey great article. You mentioned anchoring your desk to the wall. I fear I will have the same issue with stability. How do plan to anchor it to the wall? Also, I have the same question as Fred and am wondering if it will work at the higher than recommended level?

Are you using the desk higher that its recommended height?

Just curious as going by product info. desk height is from 25 5/8" to 38 5/8"
Which is too low for me.

But good article. Thanks for including the links to the hardware.
I have triple monitor setup and I'm leaning towards fixing heavier
diy shelving to alcove space. I'm curious to see what my viewing
angles are going to be though given a standing position tends to be closer
to the displays that when seated

Wow, thanks for all your comments. I didn't really think this would be one of my more popular posts.

@Kathy - yes, the key is to keep moving. To help remind me to get up and move, I made the BreakTimer, which pops up a message on the screen to take a break after a set time period. I also workout everyday during the lunch hour and that has helped my back the most.

@Trygve - It took about 3 weeks before my legs go used to standing and I could do stand indefinitely. I (work) have since upgraded me to a height adjustable desk by Hayworth. I had to put some 2x4 underneath because it didn't go up high enough for me (I am 6' 3"). This is the way to go, I can stand for an hour, sit for a hour, stand, etc. Now the BreakTimer tells me with to stand up!

@Thomas - When I had my herniated disc it was more painful to sit that it was to stand, regardless of the chair. So I actually didn't try any "good" chairs for an extended period of time, but am always looking for a good chair. What chair do you use?

Overall, I would say the standing desk helps a lot, especially in my initial recover from my herniated disc when it was literally more painful to sit than stand. The consistent rehab and workouts made the most impact and helped my back stay pain free. Now I do about 70/30 sitting/standing. Thanks again for all your comments and support.

I too own the Fredrik desk and like it. I wish it had even more adjustments for the main working surface but it seems to work well. Mine is displayed similar to the picture on this blog. I have much more energy standing. My legs have adjusted over the past 3 months.
